2014
We have made submissions to the following Senate Inquiries:

Grandparents who take primary responsibility for raising their grandchildren

Affordable Housing
(we were also asked to appear before the Senate Committee)

This does not represent all inquiries being undertaken in the Federal sphere - just the ones where we feel we can add value and are of specific interest to women and their families.  We welcome input to our submissions from the general public.  If you would like to provide information to our submission, please do so by email - at least 5 days before the closing date:  info@ncwa.org.au

2013 -
Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse
Open letter of encouragement - "in support of the Commissioners and encouraging all those involved to be brave, truthful, compassionate and sensitive during the term of the Royal Commission. We trust that it will be fully funded, throughout the course of its term, to enable it to carry out its work. We wish to congratulate all those involved in the work in setting it up and establishing the Royal Commission and commend the Prime Minister, Ms Julia Gillard for its establishment."  We have chosen this example as it is one where offences are alleged (or in some cases - proven) to have occurred across interstate boundaries.  Thank you Tony Nolan, and your family, for your bravery.

If you are reading this page, and think/know you have committed an offence - what we would really like you to do is to save your victims more pain - take yourself down to the nearest police station and report it!

2012 - Senate Legal and Constitutional Committee re the Crimes Legislation Amendment (Slavery, Slavery-like Conditions and People Trafficking) Bill 2012.
The NCWA 2012 submission supported the insertion of two new forced marriage offences:
- causing a person to enter into a forced marriage and being a party to a forced marriage
- the use of a broad definition of ’marriage’ to maximize the relationships captured by the offences.
The submission can be found at this link.
